The Basics of Healthy Eating

Let our Nutrition Fact Sheets take the confusion out of eating well. Here are a few to get you started with the basics of healthy eating.

The Dietary Guidelines for Americans help you meet your nutrient needs and reduce your risk for chronic disease. Developed by the U.S. government, these general principles of healthy eating are revised every five years based on the most current scientific research.  The three main points of the Dietary Guidelines are:

The USDA's MyPyramid is guide to help all people over the age of two to make healthier food choices. MyPyramid.gov makes it easy to personalize an eating plan that is right for you.  The color bands of the pyramid represent each the five different food groups and oils.
